Tips for choosing the right Bar Stool

When you are looking to find the perfect Bar Stool there are a number of factors that you will need to consider such as stool height, the colour, the materials used and much more. There are many different styles to choose from across a range of prices and here at Simply Bar Stools we aim to have just the bar stool for you!

Bar Stool Height

The first factor you will need to consider in your search is the height of your bar stool. Check the distance from the floor to either the top or bottom of your counter or breakfast bar. Commercial bar counters, as found in a pub or possibly a restaurant, are genereally 40-42 inches tall, a good seat height for this type of bar is 30 inches leaving room for a person to sit comfortably at the bar.

The more popular type of surface or counter is the home Breakfast or Kitchen Bar, the height of a home bar is usually 36 inches meaning a good seat height will be 24-26 inches. This will then lead to a decision as to whether you need a fixed height bar stool or one that you can adjust to suit.

It is always best to measure the width of your bar as well to see how many stools will fit, a general rule is to leave 26-30 inches between each stool for a comfortable fit.

Before choosing the barstools style and finish it is a good idea to consider which room of your home you will be putting the furniture in, will it match the decor? Choose a stool that will match your interior design and suit the room nicely rather than buying a bright colour to find it clashes badly.

Materials

Materials are a very important consideration when choosing a breakfast or kitchen bar stool. Do you purchase a wooden bar stool for that traditional country feel, a leather bar stool for a luxurious place to relax or a simple plastic or acrylic seat top for a modern design with low maintainance. Matching a stool with furniture you already have in your home is always a good idea.

The last step of choosing a bar stool for your home or business is durability and wear. How often is the stool going to be used? what enviroment will the stool be used in? For example, if a stool is being used regularily in a restuarant it is probably best not to purchase a bar stool upholstered in cloth as this could stain and wear over time, a low maintainance surface such as acrylic or plastic is perfect for these situations.
